How to remove water rings stains from Granite
Water rings stains on granite come from glasses or bottles left on the surface soaking into the porous surface. The fix is a polishing powder that pulls the stain back out — slow but effective.
What you'll need
- • Baking soda
- • Distilled water
- • Plastic wrap and painter's tape
- • Plastic spatula
- • Microfiber cloth
Step-by-step
- 1Blot any fresh residue — never scrub a fresh stain.
- 2Mix baking soda with distilled water to a peanut-butter consistency.
- 3Spread 1/4" thick over the stain, extending 1" beyond the edge.
- 4Cover with plastic wrap and tape down all four edges.
- 5Leave 24–48 hours for the poultice to draw the stain out.
- 6Gently scrape off with a plastic spatula, rinse with distilled water, and dry.
- 7Reseal the area once fully dry — 24 hours minimum.
Do not use
- Vinegar, lemon, or acidic rust removers — Permanently etches calcium-based stone.
- Bleach — Damages sealer and rarely lifts the stain.
- Wire brushes or steel wool — Scratches the finish and can leave rust specks.
